SKIT stands for a Special Kind of Improvisational Theater. Our program is indeed special. We have developed SKIT by using established improvisational theater methods and then adapting those activities. We designed these adapted activities specifically for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities focusing on key social and communication skills.

We have designed three curricula which aim at different needs. These are

Each curriculum includes the following:

• Materials (Visual supports, and in SKIT Expanding and Workplace - handouts and activity notes).

Each curriculum is easily adaptable for any type of group (age, skill level, areas of focus etc.). You can search for activities within the curriculum by level (Simple, Standard or Challenging) or by skill area (interpersonal skills, active listening etc.) The curriculum manual gives clear guidance as to how to use the activities in classes, how to structure your class sessions, and how to troubleshoot specific issues to anticipate for individuals with differing needs. Lesson plans include strategies for troubleshooting. In addition SKIT Developing Social and Communication skills includes adaptations for participants who may be non verbal or have limited language skills.
